I'm linking to the blog (Sober Joy) of a former Pentecostal pastor, Barnabas Powell, who writes an interesting and thoughtful post, 'Strange Fire'. I echo much of what he has written, especially being thankful for our ecclesiastical pasts, whatever they may be, for they have led us to an Orthodox present/future. It is precisely the knowledge gained in my former church that allowed me to understand and appreciate the depth and beauty of Orthodoxy. Conversely, the greater my understanding of Orthodox theology, the more I see the shallowness and outright heresy within Pentecostalism. It saddens me, for there are many sincere people captivated by the emotionalism and pseudo-spirituality. Lord, have mercy.
So, now that the dress has been found, the restaurant chosen, and most importantly, the GROOM lassoed, maybe I can return to thinking about something other than wedding business. Of course, there is this little matter of 13 people coming to stay at my home for the wedding. No biggie, right???
Wedding Dress Shopping or Descent Into Madness
*****UPDATE*****DD got her wedding dress. It is lovely and overall, I'd say she got a decent price. Things are falling into place for her, but my stress level is rather high, at the moment. LORD, HAVE MERCY!!!!!!Wedding dress shopping has begun and let me say right up front, I DON'T THINK I LIKE IT!The dresses are overpriced, frilly concoctions made with too much heavy fabric; they are cumbersome and just plain yucky! Well, at least the ones I've seen.DD and I have very different tastes: I like simple and flowing, she likes poufy with lots of bling. And bridal shops ... that's another story. May I never meet one of these women again in this lifetime. They tend to be arrogant, pushy, opinionated and less than forthright with important info ... like PRICES!The whole current American wedding scene is so over the top. It strokes and feeds the fantasy [beast] so many little girls have (thank you, Walt Disney) - that they are princesses and must have the Cinderella fantasy wedding. Bridezilla's not far away! Here's hoping we can avoid this trap.Lord, have mercy!!!!!
